  盛岡でホテルにチェックインして部屋に荷物を置いてから、再び新幹線に乗り、花巻の地に向かった。 盛岡から電車で花巻に向かう途中、窓のその外の田園風景を眺めていた。 雲の位置が低く、手を伸ばせば届きそうだった。 After checking into a hotel in Morioka and leaving my luggage in the room, I boarded the Shinkansen again and headed to Hanamaki. On my way to Hanamaki by train from Morioka, I was looking out the window at the countryside. The clouds were so low that I could reach them if I stretched out my hand. 花巻は温泉でも知られているが、宮沢賢治の故郷でもある。 新花巻駅から、タクシーで宮沢賢治記念館へ向かった。 記念館は森に囲まれた小高い丘の上にあり、タクシーを降りてから記念館の入り口まで、ちょっとした散歩を楽しむことができる。 Hanamaki is known for its hot springs, and is also the hometown of Kenji Miyazawa. From Shin-Hanamaki Station, I took a taxi to the Kenji Miyazawa Memorial Museum. 東京から新幹線で盛岡へ。およそ2時間10分ほどで盛岡駅に到着した。 時間的には、ちょうど新幹線で東京から京都へ行くのと同じ時間くらいだろうか。 京都には、よく行っているせいだろうか、京都より盛岡の方が遠くに感じていたが、意外に近いことに気付かされた。 Take the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Morioka. I arrived at Morioka Station in about 2 hours and 10 minutes. In terms of time, it would be about the same time as it takes to go from Tokyo to Kyoto on the Shinkansen. Perhaps because I visit Kyoto often, Morioka felt farther away than Kyoto, but I realized that it was surprisingly close. 盛岡は、アメリカのニューヨーク・タイムズ誌が、2023年に行くべき52ヶ所のうちの一つに選ばれたとのこと。 しかも、ロンドンに次ぐ、2番目の場所として紹介されている。 東京や大阪、京都といったこれまで有名だった場所では体験できないような、伝統的な文化が残り、その中で人々が地域に根ざした暮らし方としているという点が、注目された理由なのだろうか。 Morioka was selected by the New York Times magazine as one of the 52 places to visit in 2023.
