宮沢賢治記念館 - イーハトーブ　Kenji Miyazawa Memorial Museum - IHATOV

 

宮沢賢治記念館の受付で入場料を払い、展示スペースに入ると、巨大なパネルが来場者を出迎えている。

”イーハトーブ　ドリームランドとしての日本岩手県”とある。

イーハトーブとは、宮沢賢治の作品の中に登場する架空の土地の名前だ。

自分の故郷である岩手という名称から、この言葉を生み出したと言われている。

宮沢賢治が、生前に出版した唯一の童話集は、『イーハトーブ童話　注文の多い料理店』という名前で、この童話の中の話に限らず、宮沢賢治の物語は、基本的にはイーハトーブの中の物語、と言ってもいいだろう。

After paying the admission fee at the reception desk of the Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum and entering the exhibition space, visitors are greeted by a huge panel that reads. 

"Ihatov: Japan's Iwate Prefecture as a Dreamland." Ihatov is the name of a fictional place that appears in Miyazawa Kenji's works. 

It is said that he coined the word from the name of his hometown, Iwate. 

The only collection of fairy tales that Miyazawa Kenji published during his lifetime was called "Ihatov Fairy Tales: The Restaurant of Many Orders," and it's fair to say that all of Miyazawa Kenji's stories, not just the stories in this fairy tale, are essentially stories from Ihatov.



イーハトーブという地名がとりわけ登場する作品は、『グスコーブドリの伝記』で、主人公のグスコーブドリは、イーハトーブ火山局で働く若い技師として登場する。

その作品には、”その室の右手の壁いっぱいに、イーハトーブ全体の地図が、美しく色どった大きな模型に作ってあって・・・”とあり、この記念館のパネルはそれを意識したものなのだろう。

One work in which the place name Ihatov appears specifically is "The Biography of Gusuko Budori," in which the protagonist Gusuko Budori appears as a young engineer working at the Ihatov Volcano Bureau.

The work states, "Filling the right wall of the room was a large, beautifully colored model of a map of the entirety of Ihatov..." and it seems likely that the panel in this museum was designed with this in mind.




『グスコーブドリの伝記』には、イーハトーブ火山局の人々が、火山などの自然のエネルギーを駆使して、イーハトーブの人々の暮らしを支える様子が描かれている。

そこには、農学校を退職して、自分の知識を使って花巻の農家の人々を助けようとして宮沢賢治自身の姿が重なっている。

岩手県には、岩手山という県のシンボルとも言える活火山がある。宮沢賢治は、幼い頃から見慣れているこの山を、イーハトーブの中でも中心的な存在と考えていたのだろう。

"The Biography of Gusuko Budori" describes how the members of the Ihatov Volcano Bureau use natural energy such as volcanoes to support the lives of the people of Ihatov.

This is a story that overlaps with Miyazawa Kenji himself, who retired from agricultural school and used his knowledge to help the farmers of Hanamaki.

Iwate Prefecture is home to an active volcano called Mount Iwate, which can be considered the symbol of the prefecture. Miyazawa Kenji likely considered this mountain, which he had been familiar with since childhood, to be a central presence in Ihatov.

青森に着いた翌日、バスでその日の宿となる八甲田ホテルへ向かった。 青森駅商工会議所前から、無料の送迎バスが出ていて。およそ70分ほどかけて、八甲田さんの山道を通りながら、ホテルに到着した。 チェックインを済ませてから、まずは、ホテルの隣にある、酸ヶ湯温泉へ向かった。 巨大なヒバ千人風呂で知られる温泉だが、宿初施設もお食事処、みやげもの屋などもある、巨大なレジャー施設だ。 混浴の千人風呂の他にも、男女ごとに分かれた玉の湯があり、そちらに入った。 こちらはとても小さな湯どので、何人かがすでに入っていたが、誰も一言も喋ることもなく、まるで修行のように、ひたすら温泉に浸かっていた。 酸ヶ湯温泉の泉質は酸性硫黄泉で、白濁しており、湯に入ると体にピリピリとした感触があり、いかにも効用のある温泉といった感覚だった。 青森出身の彫刻家、棟方志功もこの温泉が好きでよく訪れてい他という。 棟方志功が、雄大な八甲田さんを、独特のタッチで描いた美しい”倭画”も展示されていた。 The day after arriving in Aomori, I took a bus to my lodgings at the Hakkoda Hotel. A free shuttle bus departs from in front of the Aomori Station Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It took about 70 minutes to reach the hotel, passing through the Hakkoda mountain paths. ホテルJALシティ青森　Hotel JAL City Aomori

青森での１泊目は、ホテルJALシティ青森に滞在した。 ねぶた祭りが行われる八甲通り沿いにあり、その時期にはかなり前から予約でいっぱいになるホテルだという。 For my first night in Aomori, I stayed at Hotel JAL City Aomori. The hotel is located along Hakko Street, where the Nebuta Festival is held, and apparently it gets fully booked well in advance during that time. 部屋からは、海の方が見渡せた。 右側に見える三角の施設は、アスパムという青森物産館で、青森の特産品の売店や飲食店が入っており、イベントなどもよく開催されるのだという。 残念ながら、今回は訪れることができなかった。 From my room, I could see the ocean. The triangular facility you can see on the right is Aspam, the Aomori Products Center, which houses shops selling Aomori specialties and restaurants, and where events are often held. UGUISUで青森のお酒と料理を堪能　Enjoy Aomori cuisine and alcohol at UGUISU

  青森、初日の夜は、JR青森駅から伸びる新町通り沿いにある、UGUISUというお店で、青森のお酒と料理を堪能した。 田酒、八仙など、東京でもよく知られるお酒の他にも、青森には多くの銘酒がある。 しかし、この旅行を終えてから酒店に行って気がついたのだが、東京の酒店では、青森の日本酒をあまり置いていないように感じた。 このお店では、六種飲み比べのメニューがあったので、いろいろな青森の日本酒を楽しむことができた。 料理は、お造り盛り合わせ、青森県産ホタテの貝焼き味噌、金木産霜降り馬刺し、青森県産桜姫鶏の塩唐揚げ、おばんざい 盛り合わせ、など。 豊かな青森の食文化を、美味しい日本酒と共に、思う存分、味わうことができた夜だった。 On the first night in Aomori, I enjoyed Aomori sake and food at a restaurant called UGUISU along Shinmachi Street, which stretches from JR Aomori Station.
