ピリピリと体に染みる酸ヶ湯温泉の湯　The hot spring waters of Sukayu Onsen tingle and soothe the body.


青森に着いた翌日、バスでその日の宿となる八甲田ホテルへ向かった。

青森駅商工会議所前から、無料の送迎バスが出ていて。およそ70分ほどかけて、八甲田さんの山道を通りながら、ホテルに到着した。

チェックインを済ませてから、まずは、ホテルの隣にある、酸ヶ湯温泉へ向かった。

巨大なヒバ千人風呂で知られる温泉だが、宿初施設もお食事処、みやげもの屋などもある、巨大なレジャー施設だ。

混浴の千人風呂の他にも、男女ごとに分かれた玉の湯があり、そちらに入った。

こちらはとても小さな湯どので、何人かがすでに入っていたが、誰も一言も喋ることもなく、まるで修行のように、ひたすら温泉に浸かっていた。

酸ヶ湯温泉の泉質は酸性硫黄泉で、白濁しており、湯に入ると体にピリピリとした感触があり、いかにも効用のある温泉といった感覚だった。

青森出身の彫刻家、棟方志功もこの温泉が好きでよく訪れてい他という。

棟方志功が、雄大な八甲田さんを、独特のタッチで描いた美しい”倭画”も展示されていた。


The day after arriving in Aomori, I took a bus to my lodgings at the Hakkoda Hotel.

A free shuttle bus departs from in front of the Aomori Station Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It took about 70 minutes to reach the hotel, passing through the Hakkoda mountain paths.

After checking in, I first headed to Sukayu Onsen, located next to the hotel.

This hot spring is known for its gigantic cypress bath for 1,000 people, but it's also a huge leisure complex that includes the hotel's first facilities, a restaurant, and a souvenir shop.

In addition to the mixed bathing bath for 1,000 people, there was also the separate Tama no Yu bath for men and women, which I chose.

This bath was very small, and several people were already there, but no one said a word. They simply soaked in the hot spring, as if undergoing training.

The waters of Sukayu Onsen are an acidic sulfur spring, milky white, and have a tingling sensation on the body, giving the impression of a truly beneficial hot spring.

The Aomori-born sculptor, Shiko Munakata, is said to have loved this hot spring and visited it often. His beautiful "waga" (traditional Japanese painting) of Hakkoda-san was also on display.

青森での１泊目は、ホテルJALシティ青森に滞在した。 ねぶた祭りが行われる八甲通り沿いにあり、その時期にはかなり前から予約でいっぱいになるホテルだという。 For my first night in Aomori, I stayed at Hotel JAL City Aomori. The hotel is located along Hakko Street, where the Nebuta Festival is held, and apparently it gets fully booked well in advance during that time. 部屋からは、海の方が見渡せた。 右側に見える三角の施設は、アスパムという青森物産館で、青森の特産品の売店や飲食店が入っており、イベントなどもよく開催されるのだという。 残念ながら、今回は訪れることができなかった。 From my room, I could see the ocean. UGUISUで青森のお酒と料理を堪能　Enjoy Aomori cuisine and alcohol at UGUISU

  青森、初日の夜は、JR青森駅から伸びる新町通り沿いにある、UGUISUというお店で、青森のお酒と料理を堪能した。 田酒、八仙など、東京でもよく知られるお酒の他にも、青森には多くの銘酒がある。 しかし、この旅行を終えてから酒店に行って気がついたのだが、東京の酒店では、青森の日本酒をあまり置いていないように感じた。 このお店では、六種飲み比べのメニューがあったので、いろいろな青森の日本酒を楽しむことができた。 料理は、お造り盛り合わせ、青森県産ホタテの貝焼き味噌、金木産霜降り馬刺し、青森県産桜姫鶏の塩唐揚げ、おばんざい 盛り合わせ、など。 豊かな青森の食文化を、美味しい日本酒と共に、思う存分、味わうことができた夜だった。 On the first night in Aomori, I enjoyed Aomori sake and food at a restaurant called UGUISU along Shinmachi Street, which stretches from JR Aomori Station.
