宮沢賢治イーハトーブ館 - 宮沢賢治と活字 Kenji Miyazawa Ihatov Museum - Kenji and Typeface

 

宮沢賢治イーハトーブ館を訪れた時、宮沢賢治と山口活版所との関係を紹介する展示が行われていた。

When I visited the Miyazawa Kenji Ihatov Museum, there was an exhibition showcasing the relationship between Miyazawa Kenji and the Yamaguchi Typesetting Company.

山口活版所は、明治から盛岡にあった印刷所で、賢治が盛岡中学で学んでいた頃、学校のすぐ近くにあった。

その後、賢治は盛岡高等農業学校に進んだが、その生徒会誌もここで印刷されていた。

賢治が『春と修羅』を自費出版した際には、この活版所から、活字を借りていたといい、賢治との縁が深い。

Yamaguchi Typesetting is a printing company that has been in Morioka since the Meiji era, and was located very close to the school when Kenji was a student there.

Kenji later went on to Morioka Higher Agricultural School, and the student council magazine was also printed here.

It is said that Kenji borrowed type from this typesetting company when he self-published "Spring and Ashura" at his own expense, so the company has a deep connection with Kenji.

『銀河鉄道の夜』の中では、ジョバンニが活字広いのアルバイトをするシーンが登場する。

杉井ギザブロー監督のアニメ映画『銀河鉄道の夜』でもそのシーンが描かれているが、ネコの姿で登場するジョバンニが、印刷するための音が鳴り響く作業場の中で、一つ一つ丁寧に活字を拾っていくシーンが、なぜか深く記憶に残っている。

There's a scene in "Night on the Galactic Railroad" where Giovanni works part-time at a typesetter.

This scene is also depicted in the animated film "Night on the Galactic Railroad" directed by Sugii Gizaburo, and for some reason, I remember the scene where Giovanni, who appears as a cat, carefully picks up each piece of type in the workshop, where the sounds of printing are blaring, reverberating.
