ドイツのデュッセルドルフ生まれのマリール・ノイデッカーの作品は、森の一部を切り取って、そのまま展示したようや作品。 ドイツといえば、黒い森と呼ばれる広大な森林で知られる。東北にも多くの森が残っている。 ノイデッカーは、大学の教授でもあり、アートと科学の境界で活躍している。 Mariel Neudecker, born in Dusseldorf, Germany, creates works that look as if parts of a forest have been cut out and exhibited as is. Germany is known for its vast forest known as the Black Forest. Many forests remain in the Tohoku region as well. Neudecker is also a university professor, and is active at the border between art and science. キューブリック監督の『2001年宇宙の旅』のクライマックス・シーンから着想を得たという、ノルウェー、オスロ出身のボッレ・セートレ。 過去と未来、自然と人工の世界など、色々な要素がこの白い部屋の中に見出すことができる。 同じ世代として、この作品の世界観はとてもしっくりときた。 Bolle Søtre, from Oslo, Norway, was inspired by the climax scene in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Various elements such as the past and future, and the natural and artificial worlds can be found in this white room. 塩田千春は、十和田湖畔にあった1代の古い小舟を小さな展示室に置いた。その船の中か無数の赤い糸が伸びて、展示室を覆っている。 塩田のことを知ったのは、ヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレでの展示が世界的に評価された、というニュースを見た時だった。 過激な作品で知られるマリーナ・アブラモビッチに師事していたというが、その後に師事したレベッカ・ホーンの方が、現在の作品には直接の影響を与えているようだ。 その作品を一目見ただけで、圧倒的な印象を与えることのできるアーティストの一人だ。 Shiota Chiharu placed an old boat that once lived on the shores of Lake Towada in a small exhibition room. Countless red threads stretch from inside the boat, covering the exhibition room. I first learned about Shiota when I saw the news that her exhibition at the Venice Biennale had been highly acclaimed worldwide. She studied under Marina Abramovic, who is known for her radical works, but it seems that her later student, Rebecca Horn, has had a more direct influence on her current work. 十和田市現代美術館は、一度訪れてみたい美術館の一つだった。 十和田市内では、ちょうどお祭りが行われていて、市内のメインストリートには多くの人が人垣を作っていた。 その合間を縫うように通りを抜けて、十和田市現代美術館にたどり着いた。 Towada Art Center is one of those art museums I want to visit at least once. There was a festival taking place in Towada city at the time, and many people were crowding along the city's main street. I weaved my way through the streets, weaving my way through the crowds, until I arrived at the Towada Art Center. 韓国のチェ・ジョンファの、色鮮やかな馬が、来場者を迎えてくれる。 この美術館がある通りには、かつて旧陸軍軍馬補充部が、その通りは駒街道と呼ばれている。 土地の記憶にちなんだこの作品は、この美術館の特徴をよく表しているようだ。 Visitors are greeted by a colorful horse by Choi Jeong-hwa from South Korea. The street on which the museum is located was once the site of the former Imperial Japanese Army Horse Replacement Department, and the street is known as Koma-kaido.   盛岡では、盛岡アートホテルに泊まった。 駅から歩いて10分ほどの距離になり、盛岡市内の観光にも便利な場所にあった。 In Morioka, I stayed at the Morioka Art Hotel. It was about a 10-minute walk from the station, and conveniently located for sightseeing in the city. 朝食のブッフェでは、岩手県の様々郷土料理を味わうことができた。 中でも、岩泉ヨーグルトの出会いが衝撃的だった。 まるでとろろのような粘り感があり、これまで食べてきた様々なヨーグルトとは、全く違った食感だった。 ホテルの人によれば、このホテルでは前からこのヨーグルトを出していたが、一時は廃業に追い込まれそうになった。 ある時にマスコミに紹介されて評判になり、その後は全国的に知られるようになったという。 旅から戻ってしばらくしてから、家の近くのスーパーでこのヨーグルトを見かけ、時々食するようになった。 At the breakfast buffet, I was able to try a variety of local Iwate cuisine.
