青森市へ　To Aomori City



新幹線で青森を訪れると、新青森駅にまずは到着する。

そこから在来線に乗り換えて、青森駅まで移動した。ちょうど、学校の下校時の時間に重なってしまい、大きなスポーツバッグを抱えた学生たちと、同じ電車に乗ることになった。

ホテルに荷物を置いて、まずは、青森港にあるえーファクトリーに向かった。

When you visit Aomori by Shinkansen, you first arrive at Shin-Aomori Station.

From there, I changed to a local train and traveled to Aomori Station. I happened to be there at school at the time when students were leaving, so I ended up riding the same train as students carrying large sports bags.

After leaving my luggage at the hotel, I headed first to Ae Factory at Aomori Port.





すでに日が沈みかけていたが、それが逆にいい雰囲気を醸し出していた。

この旅で、初めて目にした海は、本州の北の端、北海道に望む、青森港の海だった。

The sun was already setting, which actually added to the atmosphere.

The first ocean I saw on this trip was the sea off Aomori Port, which looks out onto Hokkaido, at the northern tip of Honshu.





波に手を近づけてみたら、9月の初めということで、まだ水温が高かった。

この浜辺は、小さな海水浴場になっていて、夕方の時間ではあったが、何組かが海水浴を楽しんでいた。

I put my hand close to the waves and noticed that the water was still warm, since it was the beginning of September.

The beach here is a small swimming beach, and even though it was early evening, several groups were enjoying swimming there.




青森への青函連絡船が見える・・・。と思いきや、すでに青函連絡船は廃止されている。これは、青函連絡船メモリアルシップ八甲田丸だ。

青函連絡船と言えば、どうしても石川さゆりの『津軽海峡冬景色』を思い出してしまう。

本州と北海道の鉄道を補完する目的で作られた青函連絡船の役割は終わってしまった。

しかし、船旅には、飛行機や列車では味わえない良さがある。今では、青函フェリーで、北海道への船旅を楽しむことができる。

I can see the Seikan Ferry bound for Aomori... But the ferry has already been discontinued. This is the Hakkoda Maru, the Seikan Ferry Memorial Ship.

Speaking of the Seikan Ferry, I can't help but think of Ishikawa Sayuri's "Winter Scenes of the Tsugaru Straits."

The role of the Seikan Ferry, which was created to complement the railway between Honshu and Hokkaido, has come to an end.

However, there are benefits to a boat trip that cannot be experienced by plane or train. Today, you can enjoy a boat trip to Hokkaido on the Seikan Ferry.

青森に着いた翌日、バスでその日の宿となる八甲田ホテルへ向かった。 青森駅商工会議所前から、無料の送迎バスが出ていて。およそ70分ほどかけて、八甲田さんの山道を通りながら、ホテルに到着した。 チェックインを済ませてから、まずは、ホテルの隣にある、酸ヶ湯温泉へ向かった。 巨大なヒバ千人風呂で知られる温泉だが、宿初施設もお食事処、みやげもの屋などもある、巨大なレジャー施設だ。 混浴の千人風呂の他にも、男女ごとに分かれた玉の湯があり、そちらに入った。 こちらはとても小さな湯どので、何人かがすでに入っていたが、誰も一言も喋ることもなく、まるで修行のように、ひたすら温泉に浸かっていた。 酸ヶ湯温泉の泉質は酸性硫黄泉で、白濁しており、湯に入ると体にピリピリとした感触があり、いかにも効用のある温泉といった感覚だった。 青森出身の彫刻家、棟方志功もこの温泉が好きでよく訪れてい他という。 棟方志功が、雄大な八甲田さんを、独特のタッチで描いた美しい”倭画”も展示されていた。 The day after arriving in Aomori, I took a bus to my lodgings at the Hakkoda Hotel. ホテルJALシティ青森　Hotel JAL City Aomori

青森での１泊目は、ホテルJALシティ青森に滞在した。 ねぶた祭りが行われる八甲通り沿いにあり、その時期にはかなり前から予約でいっぱいになるホテルだという。 For my first night in Aomori, I stayed at Hotel JAL City Aomori. The hotel is located along Hakko Street, where the Nebuta Festival is held, and apparently it gets fully booked well in advance during that time. 部屋からは、海の方が見渡せた。 右側に見える三角の施設は、アスパムという青森物産館で、青森の特産品の売店や飲食店が入っており、イベントなどもよく開催されるのだという。 残念ながら、今回は訪れることができなかった。 From my room, I could see the ocean. The triangular facility you can see on the right is Aspam, the Aomori Products Center, which houses shops selling Aomori specialties and restaurants, and where events are often held. UGUISUで青森のお酒と料理を堪能　Enjoy Aomori cuisine and alcohol at UGUISU

  青森、初日の夜は、JR青森駅から伸びる新町通り沿いにある、UGUISUというお店で、青森のお酒と料理を堪能した。 田酒、八仙など、東京でもよく知られるお酒の他にも、青森には多くの銘酒がある。 しかし、この旅行を終えてから酒店に行って気がついたのだが、東京の酒店では、青森の日本酒をあまり置いていないように感じた。 このお店では、六種飲み比べのメニューがあったので、いろいろな青森の日本酒を楽しむことができた。 料理は、お造り盛り合わせ、青森県産ホタテの貝焼き味噌、金木産霜降り馬刺し、青森県産桜姫鶏の塩唐揚げ、おばんざい 盛り合わせ、など。 豊かな青森の食文化を、美味しい日本酒と共に、思う存分、味わうことができた夜だった。 On the first night in Aomori, I enjoyed Aomori sake and food at a restaurant called UGUISU along Shinmachi Street, which stretches from JR Aomori Station.
