三内丸山遺跡で時間旅行を　Time travel at the Sannai-Maruyama Ruins


青森駅前のバス乗り場から、三内丸山遺跡行きのバスに乗って、三内丸山遺跡を訪れた。

この地域に古い遺跡があることは、江戸時代からよく知られていた。

1992年から本格的な調査が始まり、縄文時代の前期から中期、紀元前3900年から2200年という長い期間にわたって、ここに人々が暮らしていたことが明らかになった。

2021年にはこの遺跡を含む北海道や東北の縄文時代の遺跡が世界遺産に登録された。

この遺跡を訪れることは、この旅行の大きな目的の一つだった。

遺跡の入り口になっている現代の新しい建物から、タイムトンネルならぬ時遊トンネルを抜けると、大きな広場が現れる。

一見すると、日本のどこかの公園のような広場だが、ここにはおよそ1700年にわたって縄文の人々が暮らし続けた場所だった。

巨大な6つの穴が発見されたが、それらは建物の柱を建てた跡とされていて、そこに3階建ての柱の建物が再現されている。

見張り台として使われていたのだろうか、あるいは祈りを捧げるような場所だったのか。

狩猟や採集で暮らしていた縄文の人々が、これほどの大きな建物を建てていたことは、発見された時に人々に大きな衝撃を与えた。

大型の竪穴建物跡には、おそらくここに暮らしていた人が皆、集まれるほどの広さなのだろう。

そこで当時の人々は、狩猟や採集の様子などを話したり、歌や踊りを踊ったり、大きな決まり事を決めたりしていたのだろうか。

遺跡の中を歩きながら、かつてこの地で暮らしていた人々のことをあれこれと妄想して、ひと時の時間旅行を味わうことができた。


I took a bus from the bus stop in front of Aomori Station bound for the Sannai-Maruyama Ruins and visited the site.

The existence of ancient ruins in this region has been well known since the Edo period.

Full-scale investigations began in 1992, revealing that people lived here for a long period from the early to middle Jomon period, from 3900 BC to 2200 BC.

In 2021, Jomon period sites in Hokkaido and Tohoku, including this site, were registered as a World Heritage Site.

Visiting this site was one of the main purposes of this trip.

From the modern building that serves as the entrance to the ruins, you pass through a time-traveling tunnel (not a time tunnel!) and a large plaza appears.

At first glance, it looks like a park somewhere in Japan, but this was a place where Jomon people lived continuously for approximately 1700 years.

Six huge holes were discovered, which are believed to be the remains of building pillars, and a three-story pillared building has been reconstructed there.

Was it used as a lookout post, or perhaps a place for prayer?

The fact that the Jomon people, who lived by hunting and gathering, had built such a large structure caused great shock when it was discovered.

The large pit dwelling remains were probably large enough for everyone who lived there to gather.

Perhaps the people of that time talked about their hunting and gathering activities, sang and danced, and established important rules there.

Walking through the ruins, I was able to imagine all sorts of things about the people who once lived here, and enjoy a brief journey through time.

青森に着いた翌日、バスでその日の宿となる八甲田ホテルへ向かった。 青森駅商工会議所前から、無料の送迎バスが出ていて。およそ70分ほどかけて、八甲田さんの山道を通りながら、ホテルに到着した。 チェックインを済ませてから、まずは、ホテルの隣にある、酸ヶ湯温泉へ向かった。 巨大なヒバ千人風呂で知られる温泉だが、宿初施設もお食事処、みやげもの屋などもある、巨大なレジャー施設だ。 混浴の千人風呂の他にも、男女ごとに分かれた玉の湯があり、そちらに入った。 こちらはとても小さな湯どので、何人かがすでに入っていたが、誰も一言も喋ることもなく、まるで修行のように、ひたすら温泉に浸かっていた。 酸ヶ湯温泉の泉質は酸性硫黄泉で、白濁しており、湯に入ると体にピリピリとした感触があり、いかにも効用のある温泉といった感覚だった。 青森出身の彫刻家、棟方志功もこの温泉が好きでよく訪れてい他という。 棟方志功が、雄大な八甲田さんを、独特のタッチで描いた美しい”倭画”も展示されていた。 The day after arriving in Aomori, I took a bus to my lodgings at the Hakkoda Hotel. A free shuttle bus departs from in front of the Aomori Station Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It took about 70 minutes to reach the hotel, passing through the Hakkoda mountain paths. ホテルJALシティ青森　Hotel JAL City Aomori

青森での１泊目は、ホテルJALシティ青森に滞在した。 ねぶた祭りが行われる八甲通り沿いにあり、その時期にはかなり前から予約でいっぱいになるホテルだという。 For my first night in Aomori, I stayed at Hotel JAL City Aomori. The hotel is located along Hakko Street, where the Nebuta Festival is held, and apparently it gets fully booked well in advance during that time. 部屋からは、海の方が見渡せた。 右側に見える三角の施設は、アスパムという青森物産館で、青森の特産品の売店や飲食店が入っており、イベントなどもよく開催されるのだという。 残念ながら、今回は訪れることができなかった。 From my room, I could see the ocean. The triangular facility you can see on the right is Aspam, the Aomori Products Center, which houses shops selling Aomori specialties and restaurants, and where events are often held. UGUISUで青森のお酒と料理を堪能　Enjoy Aomori cuisine and alcohol at UGUISU

  青森、初日の夜は、JR青森駅から伸びる新町通り沿いにある、UGUISUというお店で、青森のお酒と料理を堪能した。 田酒、八仙など、東京でもよく知られるお酒の他にも、青森には多くの銘酒がある。 しかし、この旅行を終えてから酒店に行って気がついたのだが、東京の酒店では、青森の日本酒をあまり置いていないように感じた。 このお店では、六種飲み比べのメニューがあったので、いろいろな青森の日本酒を楽しむことができた。 料理は、お造り盛り合わせ、青森県産ホタテの貝焼き味噌、金木産霜降り馬刺し、青森県産桜姫鶏の塩唐揚げ、おばんざい 盛り合わせ、など。 豊かな青森の食文化を、美味しい日本酒と共に、思う存分、味わうことができた夜だった。 On the first night in Aomori, I enjoyed Aomori sake and food at a restaurant called UGUISU along Shinmachi Street, which stretches from JR Aomori Station. In addition to sake well known in Tokyo such as Denshu and Hassen, Aomori has many other fine sakes.
