宮沢賢治記念館 - 宮沢賢治と宗教 Kenji Miyazawa Memorial Museum - Miyazawa Kenji and Religion

 

宮沢賢治の父親は、町会議員を務めていた地元の名士だったが、熱心な浄土真宗の信者だった。

宮沢賢治も、幼い頃から、そうした家の雰囲気に囲まれて成長していったのだろう。

しかし、その後、父親に反発するように、日蓮宗に心を惹かれるようになっていった。

Miyazawa Kenji's father was a local figure who served as a town council member, but he was also a devout follower of the Jodo Shinshu sect.

Miyazawa Kenji likely grew up surrounded by this kind of home atmosphere from an early age.

Later, however, he began to feel rebellious against his father and became attracted to the Nichiren sect.

そして、日蓮宗がその礎となす、法華経の世界にのめり込んでいった。

記念館には、賢治が最初に読んだとされる、法華経の本などが展示されていた。

日蓮宗の僧侶であった、田中智学の国柱会にも入会していた。国柱会は、後に日本の国家主義者のスローガンである八紘一宇という思想を生み出した宗教団でもあった。

宮沢賢治は、浄土真宗を信じる父親と、宗教的な思想において対立していた。

He then became absorbed in the world of the Lotus Sutra, on which Nichiren Buddhism is based.

The memorial museum displays the first copy of the Lotus Sutra that Kenji is said to have read.

He also joined the Kokuchukai organization run by Tanaka Chigaku, a Nichiren Buddhism monk. Kokuchukai was also the religious organization that later gave rise to the idea of ​​Hakko Ichiu, a universal slogan used by Japanese nationalists.

Miyazawa Kenji was at odds over religious ideology with his father, who believed in Jodo Shinshu.

宮沢賢治の作品には、宗教をテーマにした作品や、直接は宗教的ではないものの、宗教的な雰囲気を感じさせる作品が多い。

あまり知られていないが、『四又の百合』という作品では、仏を表す正知（正遍知）という人物がある町を訪れる、というテーマになっている。

生前に唯一出版された詩集『春と修羅』の修羅は、まさに仏教用語だ。

宮沢賢治は、キリスト教にも興味を持っていて、内村鑑三とも間接的でがあったが、関係も持っていた。

当時、日本で活動していた牧師などの名前が、賢治の作品にはたびたび登場する。

Many of Miyazawa Kenji's works have religious themes, or are not directly religious but have a religious atmosphere.

The little-known work "The Four-Forked Lily" has as its theme a character named Shochi (Shohenchi), who represents the Buddha, visiting a certain town.

The word "Shura" in "Spring and Ashura," the only collection of poems published during his lifetime, is a Buddhist term.

Miyazawa Kenji was also interested in Christianity, and had an indirect, but also indirect, relationship with Uchimura Kanzo.

The names of pastors and others active in Japan at the time often appear in Kenji's works.
