宮沢賢治記念館 - なぜ、宮沢賢治なのか？ Kenji Miyazawa Memorial Museum - Why Kenji Miyazawa?

 

宮沢賢治記念館の最後の展示スペースに、複製だが、『雨ニモマケズ』が書かれた手帳が展示されていた。

小学校の頃に、この有名な賢治の詩を暗記して、クラスの皆に一人づつ読み聞かせる、という機会があった。

そのせいか、この詩の言葉は、全てまだ私の記憶の中にある。

In the final exhibition space of the Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum, there was a replica of a notebook containing "Ame ni mo Makezu."

When I was in elementary school, I had the opportunity to memorize this famous poem by Kenji and read it out loud to each member of my class, one by one.

Perhaps because of this, every word of this poem is still fresh in my memory.

いつの頃からか、この宮沢賢治という人物のことにとても興味を持つようになった。

なぜ、宮沢賢治なのか？

宮沢賢治は、盛岡校等農林学校で主席を取るほど学問に秀でた人物だったが、同時に、花巻の地で農業を営む人々への共感を生涯失わず、象牙の塔に籠ることなく、常に自分が何かできないかを模索していた。

当時の世界の最先端の科学的な知識を貪欲に吸収しながら、音楽や絵画など、芸術の面にも関心を持ち、童話や詩を書き、楽器を演奏するなどした。

父親が熱心な浄土真宗の宗徒であったこともあってか、自らは日蓮宗、法華経の世界を信仰し、キリスト教にも関心を持っていた。

一人の人物の中に、これほど広い領域が取り込まれて、全てが何の違和感もなくお互いが結びついて実践されていたということに、驚きという言葉しか浮かばない。

そして、宮沢賢治の生涯は、この国が大きな可能性を秘めていた、大正という時代と大きく重なっている。

私の東北の旅は、これがまだ始まったばかりだったが、この宮沢賢治記念館を訪れたことで、その旅がほぼ終わってしまったのではないか、という錯覚を覚えるほどに、その訪問は充実していた。

At some point, I became very interested in this person called Miyazawa Kenji.

Why Miyazawa Kenji?

Miyazawa Kenji was a person who excelled academically, taking top marks at the Morioka Agricultural and Forestry School, but at the same time, he never lost his empathy for the people who worked in agriculture in Hanamaki, and he was always looking for ways to help them, without retreating into an ivory tower.

While he eagerly absorbed the most cutting-edge scientific knowledge in the world at the time, he was also interested in the arts, such as music and painting, and wrote fairy tales and poems, and played musical instruments.

Perhaps because his father was an ardent follower of the Jodo Shinshu sect, he himself believed in the world of Nichiren Buddhism and the Lotus Sutra, and was also interested in Christianity.

The fact that such a wide range of fields were incorporated into one person, and that all of them were connected and practiced without any sense of incongruity, is the only word that comes to mind.

Miyazawa Kenji's life also overlaps greatly with the Taisho era, when this country had great potential.

My trip to Tohoku had only just begun, but my visit to the Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum was so fulfilling that I had the illusion that my trip was almost over.
